Women members of Dwcra groups can square up to the powerful forces operating sand mining, said Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha, on Sunday. Speaking to the media after reviewing the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) projects here, the Minister said the decision to allocate sand mining contracts to Dwcra groups was aimed at paving the way for financial prosperity of the women groups.
Responding to the query on how the women would counter the powerful sand mafia, she described the woman as aadi parashakthi (eternally limitless power) and asserted that no mafia can withstand the power of a woman.
She said anganwadi centres would be developed on the lines of convent institutions in the corporate sector. The government was looking into the issue of scarcity of sites to set up anganwadi centres besides initiating measures to complete construction of buildings housing these centres, she added.
She alleged that the Dwcra groups which were formed to ensure economic prosperity of women in the rural sector were neglected by the Congress government. Women were known to be honest and committed. The government was adopting a two-pronged strategy to facilitate income to the Dwcra group women even while keeping in check illicit mining.
Earlier, reviewing the several State-sponsored ICDS welfare schemes, she said the officials must feel responsible and ensure their effective implementation.
