The re-routing of Kanaka Durga Ghat section of the 132 KV DC line coming from Kondapalli for facilitating construction of the flyover proposed at Indrakeeladri, is set to begin in a few days, APTransco official have said.

The project will commence with the laying of foundations for five new multi-circuit high tensile steel towers that will replace three existing ones being affected by alignment of the 2.55 km-long elevated flyover that will link Bhavanipuram with Seethammavari Padalu.

The flyover is going to be a part of the six-lane road that will connect NH5 and NH9 and it will have a four-lane road beneath it.

A senior official of AP-Transco told The Hindu that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already made its payments and the contractor was ready to ground the project. On its part, the APTransco has the necessary equipment in place.

The barricading in front of the Ghat road Gopuram will be removed to facilitate movement of the material. The total cost of re-routing of the DC line has been pegged at Rs. 9 crore. Cost of shifting of all utilities (electrical and water) and land acquisition amounts to nearly Rs. 115 crore which will be paid by the State government.

“The tower shifting work will be completed in less than a month. Our target is to facilitate construction of the flyover for the Krishna Pushkaram. We are fully geared up to the task”, the Transco official said.

The VMC has permitted Transco to place a tower adjacent to the head water works and the executive engineer of Kanaka Durga temple gave his nod for erecting one on the Ghat road.

The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) will also be shifting its infrastructure along with the Transco. SPDCL engineers have finalized the list of distribution transformers and other paraphernalia that have to be relocated.

Hundreds of workers from Odisha, Tamil Nadu and some other States will be brought to execute the projects. They are specialists in working on towers at heights ranging from 50 to 75 feet. Meanwhile, the City Police are taking steps for diverting traffic, particularly during the daytime, to pave way for smooth execution of the electrical works.
