The city police arrested a maid servant in connection with a theft case registered in Two Town police station here on Saturday. The police also recovered property worth Rs.15 lakh from her possession.

The police alleged that Odusu Sarojini, 35, a resident of Gollapalem Gattu was working as maid servant in the house of N. Venkateswara Rao, a pulses trader and resident of same locality, for the last five years.

She had allegedly stolen Rs.1.5 lakh from her owner's house in December 2011.

Complaint lodged

As police complaint was lodged then, she was emboldened to walk off with 47 ‘kasu' gold valued at Rs.9.5 lakh, and cash of Rs.5.50 lakh on February 26, the police said in a release here on Saturday.

The house owner and his family went to Chirala to attend a family function and his son went to Eluru on some business trip.

On his return the son, who noticed that the cash and gold ornaments were missing from the almirah, alerted his father Venkateswara Rao, who in turn lodged a police compliant.
