The lure of insurance money reportedly led to the killing of an elderly couple by their son, who was deep in debts, at Darsi in Prakasam district last Sunday.
Thirty-five-year-old A. Narayana Reddy, who is reportedly deep in debts, allegedly gave milk laced with stupefying drugs that resulted in the death of his parents A. Venkat Reddy (70) and A. Adamma (55). The accused was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday. Addicted to vices, the man allegedly slashed the wrists of his father A. Venkat to make it appear as suicide.
Registering a case of death under suspicious circumstances, the Darsi police began investigation. Neighbours expressed doubts over the role of the elderly couple’s son, and after intense interrogation, he reportedly spilled the beans, Darsi Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Prakasa Rao said.
After his wife parted ways with him, his father, Venkat Reddy sold their land holdings to clear debts in the past. But Narayana Reddy continued his old ways. When debts became unmanageable, he allegedly committed the offence with a view to get insurance policy benefits of ₹15 lakh and also inherit property, the DSP added.
