Krishna River has acquired another feather with Collector B. Lakshmikantham launching a cruise service for people interested in spiritual and eco-tourism.

The Bhavani Island Tourism Corporation (BITC) launched the new facility in collaboration with city-based Amaravati Boating Club (ABC) in PPP mode. The cruise can accommodate 100 people, said ABC CEO Tarun Kakani. It will start at Durga ghat and navigate through scenic spots before reaching Pavithra Sangamam in a hour-long ride.

Those aboard are likely to sight crested serpent eagle, Indian roller, wagtails and pipits in the river. The amphibian fauna present in the sanctuary include the common frog, fishing cat, the otter and the saltwater crocodile.

“Lunch on board will be made available for tourists who place order in advance. Folk artists will be engaged to narrate the significance of important places the cruise will pass by such as the Kanaka Durga temple and the Prakasam Barrage in an interesting way. This will enable students and youth to enjoy a guided tour,” said Mr. Kakani, adding that he also proposed to engage a rock band to entertain the tourists.

The firm also operates a luxury cruise with a capacity to take in 15 people. “People can hire these facilities for hosting parties or for corporate conferences. We also want to encourage start-ups by youngsters to introduce musical programmes on board,” he said.

ABC has also acquired a California-imported boat which would be operated in the river on a trial basis before declaring it open for public.

The to and fro fares for the cruise ride are pegged at ₹300 per head, while for one way, it is Rs. 200.

BITC Executive Director Umamaheswara Rao, Sub-Collector Harish, ABC Managing Director Pavithra K. and officials of Irrigation and Tourism departments besides from the Kanaka Durga temple were present.
