‘Credibility always first for reporters’

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Krishna Collector B. Lakshmikantam and senior journalists on Monday advised the rural reporters to strive for credibility in the content and ground-level research. The PIB Hyderabad circle on Monday conducted ‘Vartalap’, a workshop for rural reporters on development reporting and elections here.

Addressing the reporters, Mr. Lakshmikantam said that the media requires to play the instrumental role to bring down the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and highlighting the government’s welfare schemes “An extensive reporting on the developmental issues, flagship schemes, and its success will help in achieving goals,” he said.

The newsmen have been advised to extend their support in reporting on the general elections, creating awareness on various stages of preparation for the elections beginning with the voters list.

Mr. Lakshmikantam has claimed that the IMR has been brought down to 6.88 per 1,000 births in Krishna district as against the State’s rate of 20 by the end of 2018.

“Of the above 70 welfare schemes being implemented, the people have expressed happiness on the implementation of over 80% of the schemes in Krishna. While the MMR is 98 in rest of the State, it was brought down to 39 in the district,” he said. Senior Journalist G. Rajasuka said that vernacular media would enjoy greater readership if the standard of the language was maintained. Krishna University Associate Professor Mr. Vinay Kumar, PIB Hyderabad Circle Additional Director General P. Vijaya Kumar Reddy and Assistant Director Ratnakar and other reporters discussed the development journalism.
