CPI(M) misleading the poor on housing, says Congress

June 07, 2013 03:33 pm | Updated 03:33 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

City Congress working president M. Rajeswara Rao has charged the CPI(M) of trying to mislead the poor who are trying to get a house for themselves.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Rajeswara Rao said the CPI(M) was spreading canards about the urban housing schemes initiated by the UPA Government as part of its Statewide agitation demanding housing for the poor.

Condemning the allegations of former MLA Paturi Ramaiah, he said it was not true that housing facilities created under the JNNURM scheme were allotted to Congress workers.

Only poor people were allotted housing and Mr. Ramaiah was branding them as “middlemen” and was demanding that they be thrown out.

He said it was true that completion of housing projects was taking more time than expected. That was because steps were being taken to ensure quality.

There were several unexpected delays in construction. “Why is it taking so long for the CPI(M) to build its office?” Mr. Rajeswara Rao asked.

Mahila Congress president V. Anuradha and heads of the various wings of the party in the city, and DCC general secretary P. Nancharaiah were present.
