Communist Party of India (CPI) city unit has staged a dharna at Chitti Nagar demanding a solution to One Town inundation problem.

The CPI’s 30, 31, 32,34, 35, 36, and 37 divisions organised the dharna on Sunday. On the occasion, CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar said that Vijayawada (East) MLA Velampalli Srinivas has utterly failed in addressing the problem. The people live in grip of fear if it rained.

The one town inundates even if it drizzles. All the plans to modernise the drainage system remained on papers. The under ground drainage (UGD) works were going on at snails pace in One town. There were no efforts to complete the sewerage treatment plant and outfall drains. The storm water would not be discharged from one town area unless the STPs and drains were in place, he felt.

The government had announced that the cash transfer scheme would be implemented basing on individual identification number the adhaar cards from January 1 onwards in five districts. But, there were no adhaar card centres in the city to issue the card which has a individual identification number.
