Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State secretary P. Madhu kick started a padayatra demanding that the State government pay pensions and implement promises made to the people in the capital city of Amaravati, at Nulakapeta in Guntur district on Tuesday.
Mr. Madhu alleged that the government had planned to drive out the poor from the capital city saying that it would not allow slums. It was also attempting to grab lands of the poor under the pretext of developing gardens, tanks and canals. More than 90 per cent promises were not implemented so far. The farm loan waiver was not implemented. The government had also not announced any benefits to farmers of assigned and ceiling lands in the island village of Uddandarayunipalem etc which was close to the foundation stone laying ceremony venue, he said.
