The CPI city unit has laid a siege to Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) office here demanding that the government release the grants and funds due to the Corporation immediately.

Addressing the gathering on Tuesday, CPI State secretary K. Narayana came down heavily on Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and local MLAs for not taking any initiative to mount pressure on the government to release the dues to the Corporation. The State government has stalled release of a staggering Rs. 170 crore.

But, the elected representatives show least interest in prevailing upon the government, he said.

Mr Narayana alleged that the MP was more interested in his businesses and power plants. Mr. Rajagopal uses the coal, water, land and all natural resources available here. But, he sells the power to Kerala and Tamil Nadu at a price of Rs. 12 per unit depriving the people here of power. “The government has conveniently ignored the safety of barrage to provide water to Lanco, The water level at the Prakasam Barrage is increased to provide water,” the CPI leader alleged.

When the darkness loomed the state, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy pleads he was helplessness saying water was not available for power generation. The people, however, were in no mood to accept the government’s pleas, he said, and challenged: “Let them “(MLAs, MP and CM) stay put for just 24 hours in Vijayawada without invertors and generators. Still if they say the people were happy, we will call of this agitation.”

The people should teach a befitting lesson to them, he said, adding, the CPI would intensify the agitation so much so that the people would grill the elected representatives on the road.

Later, the CPI leaders submitted a memorandum to te VMC officials on the problems faced by the people in the city.

CPI district secretary Akkineni Vanaja, city secretary Donepudi Sankar, assistant secretaries P. Durga Bhavani, G. Koteswara Rao and others were present.
