Keeping the election code of conduct in mind, Rajya Sabha member and former BJP national president M. Venkaiah Naidu, subtly put across that the country needs a strong leader and a person who has proved his calibre. Hinting at BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, he said when Gujarat has no power cuts, Andhra Pradesh has no power, and it was also because AP did not have a good leader.

He was delivering the keynote address at the ‘Excellence in business award’ ceremony of Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industries, here on Monday.

Giving away this year’s award to Margadarsi Chits and Finance Managing Director and Kalanjali Executive Director Ch. Sailaja Kiran, he said a leader can be from any field be it business or teaching or from sports to social service, and leaders need not necessarily be from the realm of politics alone.

Taking dig at the media in a lighter vein, he said the press should be unbiased and newspapers should remain as newspaper and not become views paper.

Appreciating Ms. Sailaja for playing a crucial role in the development of Margadarsi Chits from a mere Rs. 100 crore firm to over Rs. 7,000 crore, he said, women will have a greater role to play in the coming future.

Receiving the award, Ms. Sailaja, said that dedication and concern for her employees was her success mantra.

On whether she would relocate some of her business to the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh, she said, “Till a month ago we were residents of one State and a mere order on paper will not separate the people. We shall strive for the development of both the regions, as business does not believe in creating boundaries.” ACCI president Muthavarapu Muralikrishna and its secretary Chukkapalli R Prasad were present.
