CM: complete irrigation projects on war footing

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday asked officials to take necessary steps to complete the pending irrigation projects on war footing.

During a review meeting on the Neeru-Chettu works, he said that new technologies could be introduced to complete the projects in time. He reviewed pending works of Thotapalli reservoir, Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, Polavaram Right Main Canal, Gaaleru Nagari, Veligonda, Gandikota and other main projects in the State.

He directed the Irrigation Department Secretary to use pre-fabricated and pre-stressed structures for new projects as well on a pilot basis. Suggesting that an expert committee would be formed to review works under the government’s flagship Neeru-Chettu programme, he said all the stalled payments and other hurdles from the government’s side should be cleared within week.

“The expert panel will look into these issues and solve them in a week. We want accountability and quality work,” he said.

Mr. Naidu directed all departments, agencies and contractors to work together on meeting the deadlines for completing the projects.
