The coastal town is all set to get back one of its famous landmarks, the Clock Tower, at the post office traffic junction.

District Collector Kantilal Dande has issued orders allotting 2.5 cents of revenue land for construction of Clock Tower. MLA Kona Raghupati along with Forum for Better Bapatla had been demanding that the iconic Clock Tower demolished as part of road-widening be rebuilt at the same place.

Erected in the year 1948 by the then village panchayat, the Clock Tower was inaugurated by then Madras State Finance Minister Bezwada Gopala Reddy. Panchayat president Chadalavada Subba Rao and vice-president Mekala Devadanam and executive officer K. Elisha Rao played a major role in pooling donations from the public to erect the clock tower.

The Clock Tower is located to the east of historic Bhavanarayana Swamy temple and the road leads to Bapatla Agricultural College and then to the Beach Road.

Forum secretary P. Sai Babu thanked the MLA and the District Collector for their help in allotting land for the construction of Clock Tower.
