The city is going to host a first-of-its-kind book sale where bibliophiles can dig into thousands of pre-owned books and buy them in bulk.
The city is used to the annual book fair by the Vijayawada Book Festival Society and sale of used books, mostly academic, at the Lenin Centre. However, it is for the first time the literary buffs are going to witness a full-fledged fair where thousands of refurbished books of different genres, publications and authors would be made available.
But there’s a catch. One may not be able to walk out of the fair with just one or two books but have options to grab more of them in boxes at the three-day fair beginning September 14.
Bookchor, a Haryana-based startup which is going to organise the fair, calls it the ‘Lock the box sale’. “Visitors will have boxes of three sizes to choose. Buyers can take a box, go around the fair and get as many as books that fit into the particular box and each box is sold at a different price based on the size,” Shivangi Tripathi, marketing manager told The Hindu . The smallest box worth a thousand rupees can accommodate at least eight books.
“There will be about 90,000 books. So far we covered 10 cities and plan to cover 15 more this year,” she said.
Also, the visitors can sell off their old books and make space for new books in the boxes. People can also donate books which will be distributed to children in various NGOs, she added. The fair will be held at the Maris Stella Indoor Stadium. The fair would be organised for three days from September 21 in Visakhapatnam.
