As fasting for the holy month of Ramzan begins on Friday, mosques in the city are being spruced up.

Caretakers are leaving no stone unturned to complete the refurbishing works two days ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, which is celebrated to mark the end of the Ramzan month. “Replacing old carpets with new ones, white washing and installation of better lighting facilities would be taken up,” said a caretaker at a mosque.

He added that elaborate parking arrangements would be made for the convenience of the faithful. Works are on at a brisk pace at mosques in Arandalpet, Chittinagar, One Town, Yenamalakuduru, M.G. Road, Autonagar and old check-post at Autonagar.

Boards displaying timings of prayers have been put up at the entrance of mosques.

Iftar to be hosted

Meanwhile, festival organisers will host ‘iftar’ to enable the devout break their fast after evening prayers.

“The feast starts with the offering of dates and the traditional gruel, followed by fruits,” said Moulana Muhammed Dawood of Masjid-e-Rahemiya at Autonagar.

“Bags containing 25 kg rice each, sugar, 2 kg red gram, wheat, tea powder and edible oil to the poor will be supplied to the devout,” Mr. Dawood added.
