Citizens to be asked to paint their walls green

VMC wants to motivate residents about importance of greenery

October 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Prime Minister’s visit to lay the foundation for Amaravati on October 22 is likely to entail some expenditure for house owners on the road from Gannavaram airport to Ramavarappadu. The government is appealing to them to paint their green to go with the eco-friendly theme of the upcoming capital.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has been asked to lobby the house owner to paint their walls green. Its officials are meeting residents of Prasadampadu, Enikapadu, Ramavarappadu, Nidamanuru and Gannavaram on Thursday to persuade them.

VMC commissioner G. Veerapandian, who is cutting short his leave, will explain to the building owners the colour pattern and other details. The idea is to motivate residents about the importance of greenery and its benefits, besides a uniform colour pattern for all buildings makes a locality appear bright and attractive, he said.

“Building owners will have to get the walls painted on their own and this should not incur much expenditure as only the wall facing the main road will have to be painted green,” said Mr. Veerapandian.
