Chennai-bound passengers robbed in Navjeevan Express

September 22, 2014 03:30 pm | Updated 03:31 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Miscreants robbed three passengers of the Chennai-bound Navjeevan Express in the early hours on Monday and decamped with jewellery and cash worth about Rs.3.5 lakh.

According to Vijayawada Railway Superintendent of Police Ch. Syam Prasad, three passengers – Chandak, Smitha Uday and Dhara Vyas – travelling in A1 Coach, lodged complaint with the railway police that they had lost their hand bags in the train. The passengers noticed that their belongings were missing after the train crossed Balharshah around 3.30 a.m. A woman passenger travelling in the B1 coach complained that cash of Rs.10,000 was missing from her purse.

“The passengers complained that no Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs), railway police and attendants were found in the coach. We suspect that the robbers travelled in the same coach posing as co-passengers and got down in some station after committing the theft,” said Mr. Syam Prasad.

Cases have been registered and would be transferred to the railway police concerned, the SP added.
