Additional Secretary and Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Human Resource Development V.L.V.S.S. Subba Rao said that the Union ministry is focused on introducing skill-embedded degree courses in more colleges across the country as part of encouraging vocational courses to bring out skilled professionals.
Mr. Subba Rao formally inaugurated the unique Apprenticeship-based BBA Degree in Logistics course by MHRD in association with the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSSC) of the National Skill Development Corporation in the State, at Andhra Loyola College (ALC) on Monday. Of the 21 institutions across the country that began the three-year course from the current academic year, five institutions, including Govt. Autonomous College, (Rajahmundry), Andhra Loyola College, Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (Deemed to be University) and GITAM (Deemed to be University), are from the State.
Mr. Subba Rao said vocational courses help students acquire skills which make it easy to secure jobs.
He said that MHRD is also going to offering data science in logistics course at the post-graduate level.
The ministry has ambitious plans to introduce vocational education in more colleges and it is high time vocational education is considered mainstream.
‘A.P. on track’
LSSC, head, education initiatives S. Ganesan said that AP institutions were keen on introducing new courses and the fact that five out 21 institutions in the country that offer the logistics course are from the State proves it.
He said that within no time the course has become premier and in many places, seats were taken in a matter of days.
Students will have an academic session for three semesters and apprenticeship during three semesters and at the end of the course they will have one and a half years of work experience and a degree which makes them ready for employment, he said.
ALC principal Fr. G.M. Victor Emmanuel, Correspondent Fr. M. Sagayaraj, Rajahmundry college principal R. David Kumar Swamy, and VKR College president Venkat Motaparthy were among those present.
