‘Celebrate World Tribal Day officially’

Leaders of various tribal associations demanded that the government celebrate the International Tribal Day officially on August 9.Though the population of tribes were about 10.42 crores (8.6 per cent) in the world, the successive governments were neglecting the tribal people, the leaders alleged.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Society for Tribal Studies and Development AP State president Merajoth Hanumanth Naik said the United Nations had constituted a Commission after an international meet with tribal groups in 1982. Tribal associations will organise cultural programmes on a grand scale, said Mr. Hanuman Naik.
