Capital: residents’ plea to Shah on land pooling

January 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:34 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Residents of a few villages that figured in the land pooling scheme announced by the government for the construction of the Capital made a fervent appeal to BJP national president Amit Shah to protect their lands from being taken over by the government in the name of capital.

Led by local leaders, the residents of Undavalli and Penumaka of Tadepalli mandal and Lingayapalem and Uddandarayapalem under Tadikonda mandal met Mr. Shah who was participating in the party’s core committee meeting at a private guest house on the city outskirts on Friday morning. In their brief interaction, they explained to Mr. Shah as to how the government was planning to take over their fertile lands which were source of employment for small and marginal farmers as well as agriculture labour hailing from the SC/ST communities.

Asked about the issue at a press conference later, Mr. Amit Shah said acquisition of land for capital was a subject under the purview of the State government.

“I cannot comment as I don’t have much information about the issue,” he said. He, however, said the Land Acquisition Bill tabled by the NDA Government would go a long way in liberalising land acquisition process.
