Legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party, particularly Somu Veerraju and P.V.N. Madhav, had a tough time warding off the attacks of their former allies and TDP MLAs in the discussion on the Motion of thanks to Governor’s Address in the Legislative Council here on Monday.

Deputy Chairman of the Council Reddi Subramanyam, who was in the chair, had a trying time controlling the MLCs. The MLCs argued directly with one another several times making the Deputy Chairman to order them to address him. “What am I here for, if you are going to talk with one another directly,” Mr. Subramanyam said several times.

The TDP MLCs waited patiently for Mr. Veerraju to conclude his speech. Mr. Veerraju much to their chagrin spoke about how the TDP changed its stand from time to time with the help of clippings of statements made by different TDP spokespersons.

After the BJP MLCs spoke, Minister for Labour Pithani Satyanarayana explained how the Centre had failed to keep its promises.

MLC Buddha Venkateswara Rao said backward regions of Rayalaseema and North Andhra districts needed special assistance and the BJP members should take it up with the party high command because they were from Andhra Pradesh.

The strongest attack was from YB Rajendra Prasad who charged the BJP with “ridiculing, insulting and denigrating the people of Andhra Pradesh. He asked why the BJP which included in its election manifesto a promise that it would grant Special Category Status (SCS) had not done it though four years had passed”.

Mr. Rajendra Prasad said the BJP was making the same mistake the Congress party did and it was going to face a similar fate.
