Biopic on the legendary NTR launched

Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna stood dressed like Duryodhana, a mythical character from Mahabharata portrayed by his father N.T. Rama Rao and Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu snapped the clapperboard and the cameras began rolling for the first reel of the biopic: NTR. The movie is being directed by director Teja and has Balakrishna in the lead.

“I was very happy to receive an invite from actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna and assured him that I will visit no matter how busy I am. Anyway, Parliament is not functioning even though it’s working. Everyone knows that,” said the Vice-President, with his characteristic sense of timing, during the movie launch.

NTR remains one of the most adulated film stars in Telugu States, who quit a government job in Madras and took to acting with Palletoori Pilla and achieved cult status with his roles as Rama, Krishna, Karna and a host of other mythical characters. He later went on to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

While other movie makers have announced similar projects on the life of NTR, including one by Ram Gopal Varma, the Teja-directed version is expected to be a factually accurate one. The rest of the cast and crew is yet to be announced.
