Sleuths of the Central Crime Station (CCS) in the city have arrested a four-member ATM robber gang, involved in six cases in the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate limits and recovered ₹61,000 from them.
The accused — S. Seetaramaiah, K. Venkatesh, Shaik Feroz and P. Ramesh — are identified to be natives of Guntur and Prakasam districts.
Modus operandi
Seetaramaiah and Venkatesh were arrested in theft cases earlier, said South Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Srinivas at a press conference held here on Sunday.
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, the ACP said the gang members would, in the guise of assisting the illiterate and the elderly who visit the ATM centres, collect the PIN number.
After the transaction, they will retain the original, hand over a fake card and draw money.
The gang committed offences under the Krishnalanka, Patamata, Ibrahimpatnam, One Town and Suryaraopeta police station limits, said another ACP Sunder Raju.
Circle Inspectors G.V. Vinay Kumar and P.E. Pavan Kumar Reddy and other officers were present.
