Teacher and freelance artist Prem Sudheer sat amidst a maze of tables with blank drawing sheets affixed to their surface and went about drawing his way into the record books. To visitors stepping into the PVP Square, the busy artist was a greater draw than the goods in the shop windows.

Holding a black sketch pen in a sinuous grip, Sudheer drew fluid lines in a freehand style as referees of a clutch of record books kept watch. This was the artist’s attempt to create a world record in memory drawing for 24 hours non-stop.

“This feat is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh since the State was bifurcated,” said N. Ravi, Krishna district coordinator for the Genius Book of Records. Representatives of the US-based Wonders Book of Records and Miracle Book of Records were also present to record the feat.

Starting at 11.30 a.m., Sudheer created nearly 400 different images by early evening, taking a 10-minute break every couple of hours.

Curious visitors

Oblivious to the curious visitors who fluttered around him taking pictures, he went about his job, moving from one table to another.

“Freehand drawing is a matter of habit, observation and practice. It may not seem so for a novice but this drawing method develops confidence and encourages the eyes and hand and brain to work together,” said Mr. Ravi, who is an artist too.
