Finding difficulty in motivating people to opt for the training programmes in various skills imparted by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) in the capital region, officials of the Skill Development Corporation have decided to set up counselling centres in the 29 villages that constitute CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority).
“We plan to start counselling centres in these villages and right now, we are trying to identify places,” said N. Sailaja, Consultant, APSSDC.
She said there were also plans to establish Gram Tarang Employability Training Services. “To begin with, we want to start at least six such centres through which the Corporation will impart training in skills such as sewing, jute bag manufacturing and terracotta jewellery. Besides skilling, the effort is also to help people find market for their products,” she says.
She said the Skill Development body would also implement Digital India drive in these villages. “We want to focus on training college students who in turn will share their knowledge with the villagers,” she explained.
About Gram Tarang, she said it was a social entrepreneurial initiative in skill training working in largely underdeveloped region and committed towards providing young people with employable skills.
The expected impact from Gram Tarang is to drive self-sufficiency and inclusive economic participation in local communities by ensuring sustainable employment with an additional focus on empowering women and marginalised classes, enduring development of local solutions through micro entrepreneurship.
To have a strong domestic and international presence in the training and skill building space, in order to make over 100,000 people employable annually with emphasis on poor and the marginalised sections of society across the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
The Corporation has also signed an MoU with the Tribal Welfare Department to bring into its fold the tribal population devoid of any skills. Nearly 15 of the 35 youth training centres being constructed by the Corporation are ready to be formally inaugurated by October 15. “The inauguration will precede a mobilisation drive christened ‘Bhavita’,” she informed.
The Skill Development Centre has also established a state-of-the-art Gurukulam at Etcherla near Srikakulam where 130 engineering students from the capital region are undergoing training.
