Anganwadi centres here are being given a makeover, after Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana’s proposal to introduce English medium. Gone are the days when the centres had just a black board and couple of numbers and alphabet charts.

Now, a comprehensive pre-school kit is available at every centre. The Anganwadi centre at Nehru Nagar is brimming with children as the teacher B. Mohan Radha gets to work. “We are teaching the children the basics which help them to build their memory, give them matching skills and identification of colours etc.,” says Radha.

40 centres identified

The municipal corporation has identified about 40 anganwadi centres which would be converted into playschools.

Each centre would have fresh painted walls, workbooks and playschool kits.

Children would be admitted from the age of three.

At a recent meeting held at the Secretariat, Mr. Narayana said English medium would be started in all municipal schools from Class I.
