Andhra, Rayalaseema lawyers boycott work

They are upset over the sudden bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court

Upset over the sudden bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court, a section of lawyers hailing from the Andhra and the Rayalaseema regions boycotted work on Thursday. When some of them explained the reason to Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan in the first court, he made it clear that he cannot join them.

The Division Bench comprising the CJ and Justice S.V. Bhatt adjourned the first court after giving fresh dates for matters listed for the day. The second and the third Division Benches also did so. While many other judges rose early adjourning their respective courts, Justice Naveen Rao continued the court even after lunch break.

The HC would function at the CM’s camp office in Vijayawada temporarily. After a few days, it is likely to be shifted to the ‘Justice City’ in Amaravati, AP Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas told the media here.

Another notification was issued appointing C. Praveen Kumar as acting Chief Justice of the AP High Court.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will administer the oath of office to Justice Praveen Kumar and other judges in Vijayawada on January 1.

Justice Radhakrishnan will continue as the CJ for the Telangana HC.

Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice V. Ramasubramanian of the Hyderabad HC would continue to work for the Telangana HC. The subordinate judicial officers were also divided between the two HCs.
