The police on Wednesday maintained strict vigil following reports of suspected activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) entering and taking shelter in the border areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
According to unofficial reports, the SIMI activists, who were alleged to have been involved in the Chennai bomb blasts, were suspected to have taken shelter in the interior localities around Tada and the residential localities of industrial workers there.
The reports were stated to have emanated from the intelligence sources, which said that the SIMI activists might have taken refuge in the residential areas in Andhra Pradesh bordering with Tamil Nadu.
However, the police officials denied reports of such suspected activists entering A.P. There was no indication of any field-level searches by the police teams of either A.P. or Tamil Nadu till late on Wednesday evening. Police, however, did no rule out the possibility of carrying out searches and checking the identities of industrial workers who had come from far-off places from other States for employment in the Special Economic Zones and industries in the border areas.
