Akshaya Patra city chapter inaugurated

With an aim to satiate hunger of one lakh students in future, Akshya Patra, a non-for-profit organisation, made its way into Vijayawada with the new chapter. MP Kesineni Srinivas aka Nani inaugurated the Vijayawada Chapter here on Monday.

The foundation is entrusted to provide mid-day meals to the students of municipal corporation and government schools in Vijayawada and Guntur. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nani said: “We believe today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens and future of country. Providing healthy and nutritious food, quality education and employment opportunities will make them an asset for the country in future.” He appreciated the foundation for coming forward to operate in Vijayawada.

Addressing the gathering, the foundation’s AP and Telangana division head Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa said they are setting up kitchen in Autonagar and aim to set up a kitchen to cook for one lakh students in future.

He said the foundation on Sunday won the Nikkei Asia Prize for supporting education of children. Mr. Dasa further said that their kitchens are fully automated and everything from cutting vegetables to cooking is done mechanically.

Vijayawada Chapter president Maha Vishnu Dasa said the foundation had built a kitchen in Thullur of Capital region from where meals would be supplied to nearby school students once schools reopen.

He said that in Vijayawada, around 25, 000 students of 105 municipal and government run schools will be provided meals from August after completion of construction of kitchen in Autonagar.

Commissioner of Police D. Gautam Sawang, VMC commissioner G. Veerapandian, Deputy Mayor G. Venkataramana and others were present.
