ACA donates Rs. 5 lakh for badminton tourney

Andhra Cricket Association, as part of its endeavour to promote other sports and games, on Wednesday, donated Rs. 5 lakh to the organising committee of the 79th Senior National Badminton Championship here on Wednesday.

ACA treasurer Rahim along with ACA joint secretary Ch. Arun Kumar gave away the cheque to Badminton Association of India joint secretary Ankamma Choudary. Vijayawada, after a gap of 34 years, is hosting Senior National badminton championship, the premier domestic fixture, in which the best of shuttlers such as World No. 4 Saina Nehwal, K. Srikanth, P.V. Sindhu and Parupalli Kashyap are taking part.

ACA has been promoting other sports by providing financial assistance to deserving sportspersons and also by organising events.

“We have offered financial help to players such as chess Grandmaster M. R. Lalith Babu, who went on to win a medal for India in the prestigious Olympiad. He also offered help to international para athlete Tirumalai Kumar,” said Mr. Rahim.

He said players in table tennis, tennis, rifle shooting, archery and roller skating were benefited from the ACA’s gesture.

“We helped financially the conduct of ITF Futures tennis event in Vijayawada,” he added.
