Airports Authority of India (AAI) Southern Regional Executive Director (Chennai) T.S. Chandramouli visited Gannavaram Airport on Saturday. He enquired about the development works on the airport premises.

Airport Director B.G. Patil, who accompanied Mr. Chandramouli, explained about the new terminal building, automation air traffic control system, instrument landing system (ILS), layout and the ongoing development works.

He went round the airport and gave some suggestions to the officials in the ongoing expansion works. Later, the Regional Executive Director held a meeting with the project authorities and reviewed the land acquisition and other issues.

Air Costa flights

Regarding operation of domestic flights by Air Costa Aviation Private Limited, Mr. Patil said that the management should obtain permission from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the AAI. The Air Costa also needs to take slot from the airport authorities to fly the aircrafts, he said.

The director explained that two Embraer ERJ 170 aircrafts of Air Costa were parked in the hanger on the airport premises. Once the management gets approval for operating the flights and complete other procedures, the Air Costa will start flying the planes, he said.

Air Costa promoter, Lingamaneni Estates Private Limited (LEPL), a Vijayawada-based company, plans to launch its operations from Vijayawada to Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and other southern cities first.
