A shopping extravaganza like no other

September 09, 2011 11:56 am | Updated 11:56 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

City Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy on Thursday inaugurated The Hindu MetroPlus Lifestyle Show 2011 at the sprawling Loyola College grounds.

After lighting the lamp to mark the formal inaugural, the CP went around the 200-odd stalls that dot the venue and interacted with the stall-holders. Navigating through a dazzling array of mishmash, the top cop took a pause intermittently to take a closer look at some of the products that caught his attention.

Antique paintings done on a marble base, carted in from Chennai and displayed at a stall had Mr. Reddy slow down and enquire with the owner of the stall more about the amazing art.

So vast is the range of products offered at the on-going event that visitors are spoilt for choice.

Stall-holders try to grab your attention as you walk past their space.

From consumer electronics, to home appliances, furniture and furnishings, modular kitchens and accessories, arts and handicrafts, automobiles, beauty and health products, textile and jewellery, electronic safety lockers, jute products and other stuff, the one-stop destination has it all. Shopaholics can revel in splurging on their favourite lifestyle products.

‘Masseur' reads a stall where one can see a number of visitors stopping to relax and try the massive massage chairs placed in a row. A group of lads from Dadar in Mumbai have carted in beauty products like face masks, eye masks and other stuff to ensnare the young ladies visiting the place. Leather handbags from Kanpur, floating lamps from Dadar in Mumbai, fitness equipment from Bangalore, household cleaning equipment from Delhi, juicer, mixer, instant chapatti maker, wrist watches, jute products, home made snacks from Mysore, pickles from Rajasthan and much more is up for grabs.

Tanzania

Mariam from Tanzania, a regular participant in the Lifestyle Show, is back this year, with an enticing collection of knick-knacks that has college girls going gaga.

The ongoing consumer extravaganza is co-sponsored by Yamaha. The Gateway Hotel is the hospitality partner, Hi-tech mineral water is the water partner and 93.5 Red FM is the radio partner.

The whole experience of visiting the venue, going around the stalls, picking your choice and ultimately carrying home your prized possession can be uplifting. Going on a shopping binge can also be a unique way to drive away one's blues. Its time folks to zoom off to the Lifestyle show and bring home style and comfort.

The five-day exhibition-cum-sale opens at 10.30 a.m. and ends at 8.30 p.m. on all days.
