Uninterrupted supply of water yet to be achieved

September 25, 2010 05:47 pm | Updated 05:47 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The engineers of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on Friday continued their efforts to ensure full and uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the areas served by the 10-MGD treatment plant at Ramalingeswara Nagar, even as the motor in the collection well did not stop giving trouble.

The officials continued to supply water through 45 tankers and 25 borewells as there was no possibility of trouble-free supply of water from the plant. The engineers raised the motor from the ground level in the collection well, so as to have a comfortable distance between the foot valve and the stand. But the motor was vibrating when it was being put to use. This was hampering the pumping of water, an official explained.

The VMC asked Kirloskar, the company that supplied the motors, to depute its technicians to study why it was happening and suggest remedies. They were expected to arrive on Saturday. Only after the problem was identified that a permanent solution would be possible, an official said.
