Under the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), a massive drive has been taken up to provide training and employment to every educated jobless youngster in the municipal areas of the district. Over 6,000 youngsters have already been provided jobs even as the officials are ready to give training to every new applicant.
K. Sivasankar Rao, Project Director of Indira Kranthi Patham Urban (MEPMA) says that the mission is being carried out under Swarna Jayanthi Shahri Rojgar Yojana with the objective of helping the urban youngsters who have minimum educational qualification of 10th class to degree but are not doing well because of lack of a job. The scheme will take care of both the training and placement of the youngsters who are waiting to get a foothold in life.
Mr. Sivasankar says that this year as many as 1,300 jobless youth have been identified in different municipalities in the district and been provided good training and placement. These trained youngsters have been placed in jobs with salaries of up to Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000 a month. The scheme has become a real boon for the qualified urban youth who are ready to take up jobs but are not able to find them.
The training component comes to about three months, which involves focussed coaching to ensure that the youngster gets the right kind of skills in an area where he or she can build a career in future. After the successful completion of training, there will be certification as well with the purpose of making the candidates stronger.
Mr. Sivasankar Rao says that the unemployed youth are being provided training with the active support of the National Academy of Construction, the Jan Shikshan Sansthan and various other organisations well placed in such human resource training activities. Applications from jobless youth in urban areas will be accepted any day and there is no restriction in this aspect. Already 1,300 youngsters have been trained this year and there are efforts to train another 350 candidates.
