Giving into the long-pending demand for a super speciality hospital in the State from its employees, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is planning to construct one on the premises of Vidhadharpuram depot in the city.

There has been a demand for a super speciality hospital alike the Tarnaka Hospital in Hyderabad from employees of Seemandhra region since many years and this gained momentum after bifurcation. Everyday, it is estimated that close to 300 employees and their family members visit Tarnaka hospital in Hyderabad from different areas in the State for treatment and health checkups.

They face lot of inconvenience travelling all the way to Hyderabad. The same was brought to the notice of Vice-Chairman and Managing Director J. Purnachandra Rao and a representation was also filed at the corporation requesting the authorities to construct a super specialty hospital here in Vijayawada, says P. Damodara Rao, additional Chief Secretary of RTC Employees Union.

Study

Last week, a team of executive directors led by A. Venkateswara Rao (Administration) and A. Koteswara Rao (IT) visited Vidyadharpuram and Pandit Nehru Bus station (PNBS) in city to study different options. There is a provision for constructing additional floors at PNBS for having a super specialty hospital but there are a few challenges as well.

Space available

Similarly, there is lot of space at Vidyadharpuram depot, out of nine acres, 2.5 acres can be used for constructing the hospital. There is also a dispensary on the depot premises and this can be upgraded into a super specialty hospital. Efforts are being made to construct the hospital at the earliest and blueprint will be prepared very shortly, said A. Venkateswara Rao.

Like Bus Bhavan and Bus Body Building unit at Miyapur, Tarnaka Hospital is among those few assets, which are contentious between the employees of both the States since bifurcation.
