Uncertainty over T-turmoil may have put in abeyance travel plans of employees in Hyderabad for Sankranthi but the cold seems to be driving them back to comfort and warmth of their native towns in the district.
Occupancy ratio in the RTC buses coming from Hyderabad to Guntur which was rather low in the last two days picked up on Thursday raising hopes of the public transport corporation.
The RTC, Guntur Region, had planned to ply 100 buses from Hyderabad to different destinations in the district beginning on January 10, Monday. But the response has been lukewarm during the first two days forcing the RTC to ply just 70 buses daily.
``The uncertainty prevailing in Hyderabad cast a dampener in 2009, but thankfully the passenger rush seemed to have picked up on Sankranthi eve,'' said RTC Regional Manager N Suryachandra Rao.
On Thursday, the RTC plied its full quota of 100 buses.
In return, RTC is planning to play 150 buses beginning on January 16 and would continue to play same number of buses till January 18. The passenger rush is expected to be at its peak on Sunday and the rush is expected to continue on Monday too.
New Volvo service
The Guntur RTC Region is playing a new Volvo service to KPHB in Hyderabad. The bus starts from NTR bus station in Guntur at 11 p.m. and reach KPHB at 6 a.m. In return, it starts at KPHB at 9.30 a.m. and reach Guntur at 6 a.m. Minister for Housing Kanna Lakshminarayana will flag off the new service at 11 a.m. on Friday.
