Activists of the opposition parties, including the Left parties, staged road blockade and various other forms of protests across the district on Sunday resenting the latest hike in petro prices.
The protesters, owing allegiance to the CPI (ML-New Democracy), organised a novel demonstration in Khammam town by dragging the motor vehicles with ropes in a symbolic protest against the increase petro prices. They set ablaze an effigy of the Central Government at Mayuri Centre.
They raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA Government, accusing it of imposing backbreaking burden on the common man, who is already reeling under the impact of skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
Activists of the Telugu Desam Party, the CPI and the CPI (M) also organised protest demonstrations in Khammam and other towns in the district. Road blockades were organised at Kusumanchi, Wyra, Yellendu, Garla, and other mandals. The protesters demanded that the Centre immediately roll back the petrol price hike and check the spiralling prices of essentials.
