One more venue doubles Happy Sunday joy

Guntur joins festivities, Vijayawada Commissioner promises to add more venues in city

The joy of ‘Happy Sunday’ doubled in the city as a new venue for the special cultural and fun-filled activities was born at the Sarada College junction on BRTS Road.

In addition to the IGMC Stadium venue on M.G. Road, the organisers of Happy Sunday programme began hosting the event simultaneously on BRTS Road which would be one among the other venues that are going to come up in future.

Hundreds of citizens and students gathered at the new venue and took part in the programme while playing their favourite sports and games. Cultural performances by students of the Nalanda Degree College and artistes entertained the gathering.

People played games like shuttle badminton, volleyball and skating.

Meanwhile, at the IGMC Stadium, cultural performances and aerobics by students rocked the gathering. Students of the Nalanda Degree College danced to a medley of patriotic songs in support of ISRO, which is going to launch 103 satellites at one go. Four-doll performance and a double-head jig by Tharun of the college cheered up the gathering. Also, kids presented western and folk dances.

Organisers invited

Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian, who took part in the activities on BRTS Road, said that the turnout at the new venue was good. He said that the Corporation would extend help to those who come forward to organise the event in their respective areas. One more venue was likely be considered at One Town's K.T. Road or Crambe Road so that the people of One Town and nearby areas can take part in large numbers, he said.

He further said that VMC would extend all support to the main organisers, DEEP Trust.

Nalanda Degree College principal M. Anuradha donated saplings to the Corporation. City police officials, corporators, municipal officials and others took part in the programmes.

Great start

A delectable mix of traditional and modern entertainment programmes marked the launch of Happy Sunday at the NTR Municipal Stadium in Guntur. People had their day out on the premises of the stadium on a warm Sunday.

Youngsters revelled in the celebrations which began with Vandemataram song followed by a Dasavathara performance. The love dance and group dances were cheered by the onlookers comprising a large number of youngsters.

Launching the programme, GMC Municipal Commissioner S. Nagalakshmi said that the programme would be organised on every Sunday morning.

Folk dances and western dances also marked the festivities.

The highlight of the programme was a flash mob by the students of the RVR & JC College of Engineering and the Vignan University.

The Commissioner participated in traditional games lifting up the spirits of students. Members of the Laughing Club also took part in the festivities. "The idea of celebrating Sunday as Happy Sunday is good as we are having a great time here during my final year college days," said Keerthi, a B.tech student of St. Marry's College.
