Nyasya to promote Indian handicrafts online

VIJAYAWADA: A techie from Andhra Pradesh based in Singapore has developed ‘Nyasya’, a first of its kind e-commerce based social enterprise that seeks to promote Indian handicrafts at global-level.

Satish Babu, Managing Director of Singapore-based Tech-Mark Pte. Ltd. and a native of Narasapur in West Godavari district, is the brain behind Nyasya.

“Nyasya is designed to address the biggest challenges -- content and product management and uniform policy on suppliers and packaging in order to provide consistent customer service from over 4 million artisans/exporters. The driving force behind the project is to aggregate the supply of handmade crafts and enable the artisans in villages and towns to use the power of internet to expose the beauty of Indian culture and diversity,” said Mr. Satish Babu.

Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh State Assembly Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday formally launched the project at the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada (CCV) and Amaravati, the CSR wing of Malaxmi Group. “Tech-Mark will operate the global online retail portal for Indian handicrafts in association with the CCV,” he said.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Satish Babu said Nyasa opens a new vista for 100 per cent hand-crafted products of artisans to reach out to the global market. Chairman of the Malaxmi Group Y. Harishchandra Prasad said the CCV would encourage all things related to tradition, culture or the ethos associated with this land.

Mr. Satish Babu said Nyasa would dedicate part of its revenue to Narsapur-based Lucy Molnar Wing Memorial Charitable Trust and other charities in the local communities to help women suffering from ailments like cancer and to provide food, shelter and medical facilities to old people, orphan children, disabled and the down-trodden.

Advantages

Speaking about the advantages, Mr. Satish Babu said the fact that his firm Tech-Mark has over two decades of experience in global technology solutions development and marketing background and that it was committed to train Indian youth and artisans in e-Commerce, social media and digital marketing technologies, will come handy for effective implementation.

He said the target was to capture a pie in the US $ 7 billion handicraft industry with 4 million artisans in India and 103 billion markets globally.
