After receiving complaints from the residents of Ajith Singh Nagar over the continuous burning of garbage in the dumping yard, Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian on Monday inspected the area and ordered officials concerned to take action.

The continuous burning of the garbage stocked up in the yard has caused hardship to the residents during the last couple of days.

Mr. Veerapandian was told by officials that they had identified that fire was created due to a furnace near the dumping yard site and throwing of live cigarettes by men who were using the site for defecation.

Mr. Veerapandian asked the officials to immediately ensure removal of the furnace and put vigil at the yard to avoid movement of people besides stationing of two hydraulic cranes and three fire tenders.

Meanwhile, the Taxpayers Association lodged a complaint against the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) with the AP Pollution Control Board in a letter to its head office through registered post. In the complaint, the association alleged that the VMC had not stopped dumping the solid waste in the yard which was right in the middle of residential colonies.

Association president V. Sambi Reddy and secretary M.V. Anjaneyulu said the locals were suffering from health problems like skin diseases, respiratory ailments and others due to the burning of garbage.

They demanded immediate action to stop dumping of solid waste in the yard and also remove the piled up garbage.
