Senior Congress leader and five-time MLA Kanna Lakshminarayana on Wednesday scoffed at rumours being circulated in a section of the media that he was crossing over to the Telugu Desam Party and asserted that he would remain a Congressman till the end.

“In my political career spanning 25 years, I have been relentless and unsparing in my fight against the policies of N. Chandrababu Naidu. How can I think of changing loyalties?” he said, while addressing a press conference here. Mr. Lakshminarayana said he would contest from Guntur West Assembly constituency, which he had won in 2009 in a triangular contest.

The former Minister, said he was banking on schemes such as the comprehensive drinking water scheme involving an expenditure of Rs. 450 crore to provide drinking water to Guntur town and the 10 surrounding villages, Indiramma housing scheme under which 5,000 houses had been constructed and other developmental works in the town.

Mr. Lakshminarayana said he was also focussing on the welfare of minorities and Christians. A cemetery for Christians was coming up on 11 acres at Gorantla and four marriage halls were built for the minorities.

He also hinted that the Congress was looking at the possibility of fielding a candidate from the minority community or Arya Vysya community from the Guntur Lok Sabha segment.
