Kiran Kumar was a harried commuter who travelled daily about 15 km from Kanuru to Nunna. His journey was fraught with hurdles like the twin railway crossings at Gunadala which would contribute to the delay in reaching his work place, besides the regular traffic chaos at the main junctions.

A builder by profession, Mr. Kumar has started a venture at Nunna. “It would take a minimum of 50 minutes to one hour and dealing with the road rage enroute was an issue. All that is passé now thanks to the Inner Ring Road flyover at Ramavarappadu that has eased the traffic congestion and drastically reduced the travel time,” says Mr. Kumar.

“Now it saves almost half an hour time in addition to the stress-free driving in this route. The fact that emotions affect our driving caused a great deal of worry. Not any more,” says the happy commuter.

Though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu formally inaugurated the much-awaited flyover a couple of days back, the new structure became operational a week back paving the way for a hassle-free travel for people using the route.

People living along the flyover stretch talk incessantly about how it has significantly reduced the travel time and has reduced traffic congestion, besides saving their precious fuel.

The IRR starts from Gollapudi, where vehicles heading towards Visakhapatnam and Kolkata from Hyderabad can be diverted through the IRR without entering the city.

People at Kummaripalem, Krishna Lanka and Benz Circle can feel the relief after the Rs. 119-crore IRR flyover became operational.

S. Rajaiah, a resident of Singh Nagar, echoes similar views. “Since the heavy vehicles are taking a diversion, the traffic at Singh Nagar flyover area has reduced considerably. I reach my office at Autonagar Gate in lesser time now,” he says.

Fund crunch forced the Government to stop the works abruptly on the project a decade ago. The 10-km-long stretch has been completed on a war-footing keeping in view the Krishna Pushkarams.

The project may have taken a decade to materialise, but the comfort it has brought to its users makes it worth the long wait.
