The issue of lack of proper infrastructure in the infant’s ward of Government General Hospital’s old premises came to the light on Sunday, as five infants died between morning and night while undergoing treatment in the ward.

All the five infants, including four male and one female, were pre-mature babies and were referred to the GGH for ventilator support.

There was no central oxygen system in the hospital and only one ventilator was functioning.

Parents of the infants complained lack of proper treatment in the hospital to their babies.

The issue came to the light when a female infant of Durga Bhavani and Adinarayana died while undergoing treatment late on Sunday.

State blamed

As the news was flashed on television channels, MLAs Malladi Vishnu (Congress) and Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao (Telugu Desam Party) visited the hospital and interacted with the parents. Mr. Uma Maheswara Rao lambasted the government for failing to provide basic facilities in the hospital.

Joint Collector B. Ramayya too visited the hospital and inspected the ward.
