A condolence meeting organised here on Monday by the Krishna district unit of All-India Christian Council to pay tributes to late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy demanded that his son and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy be named the next chief minister of the State.

Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu recalled the services of Dr. Reddy to the State, and said his name would be written in golden letters in the history of State for the welfare schemes he introduced, and for striving hard to uplift the ill-fated and the downtrodden.

He and other speakers said that their minds were blank and empty and they saw nothing but vacuum with the death of Dr. Reddy. Stating that the State needed a strong and youthful leader to carry forward the pro-poor policies and programmes of the late Dr. Reddy, they expressed the view that Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was best suited to step into his father’s shoes.

“We need to take forward the targets, ambitions, plans and programmes of Dr. Reddy, so that his soul would rest in peace. Jagan is best suited to carry forward the mission of Dr. Reddy for the poor and downtrodden,” remarked Mr. Vishnu.

Expressing similar views, city Congress president Pyla Sominaidu hoped that AICC president Sonia Gandhi would honour the sentiments of people.

Mayor M. V. Ratna Bindu felt that the God must be jealous of Dr. Reddy as people fondly called him “devudayya” (God). Likening Dr. Reddy to a divine messenger, former Mayor Mallika Begum said Dr. Reddy fulfilled the job assigned by the God to him.

APCC secretary Kolanukonda Shivaji and others also made a strong pitch for anointing Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the next chief minister of the State. All India Christian Council Krishna district president M.W. Job, city vice-president M. Prasad, corporators S.P. Gritton, Narasimha Chowdary and others spoke.
