The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is contemplating connecting Sitara junction and Sitannapeta, and Gollapudi and Ramavarappadu roads as a part of long-term plans for traffic and related problems in the city, according to Municipal Commissioner P. S. Pradyumna.

He was replying to resolutions proposed by Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) corporator Mahadev Appaji, and Congress corporator S. Sailaja and others on construction of flyovers and bridges in the city, at VMC general body meeting on Saturday.

Mr. Pradyuma said that the Corporation would invite tenders for appointing a consultant to study the proposals to link Sitara-Sitannapeta, and Gollapudi-Ramavarappadu roads.

The commissioner replied to queries on various issues that were discussed in the forenoon meeting. On linkage loans, he said that the Corporation was planning to form Slum Level Federation (SLF) to strengthen the self help groups and bank linkage system.

As many as 250 SLFs would be formed in the city shortly, and redistribution of or transfer of SHGs from one bank to another would be possible only after 2010, he said.

Replying to queries on modernisation of Kabela, he said there was only one contractor in entire India.

The contractor stopped the work in middle, and was demanding advance payment for completion of the project. The Corporation was negotiating with him and would complete it the earliest, he said.

When some corporators pointed out that officials were insisting on white ration card for Abhayahastham, Urban Community Development (UCD) project officer D. Chandra Sekhar asserted that white ration card was mandatory for availing the benefits of the scheme.

Hereafter, the white ration card would be mandatory for all the welfare schemes of the government, he said.

The issue of naming of streets, pensions to old aged, widow, and physically challenged, setting up of Corporation Relief Fund were some of the issues that were discussed at the meeting.
