Police on Saturday registered a case under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 against Subhani, who attacked a girl and her mother in Machilipatnam on Friday night. “It was proved that the accused had bought 5 litres of diluted sulphuric acid on Friday evening and stored it in a plastic bucket to executive his plot,” Investigation Officer A. Ashok Kumar told The Hindu .

It is learnt that imitation jewellery workers are allowed to purchase and store huge quantity of sulphuric acid for their industry needs. Police also seized the house of the accused. An empty bucket and Haazida’s cloths were sent for forensic tests. The accused, who poured the remaining sulphuric acid on his own body, was also referred to Government Hospital, Vijayawada.

The house owner and his family made it clear that Mr. Subhani had never stored sulphuric acid in his portion of the residence, as he always depended on somebody in the industry to source it. Ms. Haazida is the youngest daughter of her parents. Her elder sister and brother are married and settled outside the town. The other investigating officers are Inakuduru Circle Inspector Mr. K. Sai Prasad and Sub-Inspector Mr. K. Ashok Kumar.
