Municipal Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna on Sunday exhorted the archery administrators to focus on the development of the sport, especially at Vijayalakshmi colony where the VMC-Volga Archery Academy exists, so that no official in the future would disturb the functioning of the academy.
Speaking to media persons after inaugurating the equipment room and a waiting shed at the academy, he said that the land was given on lease to the academy for a year and only a continuously good performance by the archers at national and international levels would help the growth of the academy. “The next officer, whoever it is, should not have a second thought while extending your lease period. Only performance matters,” he said.
Mr. Pradyumna said that the archery academy should spread the sport among the youngsters in the colony. “This place should become a landmark. People should refer to this place not as Mahanadu road but as archery academy road,” he said. He also promised to develop the road adjacent to the academy.
Krishna District Archery Association president Ch. Satyanarayana said that already five youngsters from the colony were practising at the archery field and promised to spread the sport among the local youth.
“Our next goal is the Commonwealth Games trials that take place in December. City archers like Ch. Lenin, M. Rishitha and Ritual Chatterjee are vying for a place in the team. We are also planning to install signalling system and implant quality grass on the premises to achieve the international standards,” he said. Mr. Satyanarayana said city archers were sure to win medals at the forthcoming sub-junior Nationals.
Krishna District Archery Association secretary Adinarayana, archery promoter G. Venkata Ramana and parents of the archers took part in the function.
