81 p.c. white cardholders receive Sankranti gift packs

The Krishna district administration has distributed gift pack containing six essential commodities to as many as 4,37,808 white ration card holders to enable poor celebrate Sankranti.

The essential commodities — red gram, palmolein oil, Bengal gram, jaggery, wheat flour and ghee — were distributed as part of ‘Chandranna Sankranti Scheme’

District Supply Officer A. Krishna Rao said stock from different places arrived at the mandal-level stock points (MLSP) on Saturday night and later, the stock was sent to 2,157 fair price shops by Sunday morning.

There were 11,35,010 white ration card holders in the district. Of them, the administration had covered 4,37,808 card holders while the remaining would be covered by Monday evening, he explained.

Yellow bags

Standing in queues, card holders collected the gift packs that were given in yellow bags at the fair price shops. In a few areas, policemen intervened to ensure that the card holders maintained proper queues.

Video conference

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao conducted a video conference with officials concerned and took stock of the situation.

Officials told the Minister that 81 per cent of the total card holders were covered on Sunday.
