₹550 crore for infra development in Amaravati

July 13, 2019 01:09 am | Updated 01:09 am IST - AMARAVATI

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy allocated ₹550 crore for creating essential infrastructure in the capital city Amaravati and ₹65 crore for capital region social security fund.

The 2019-20 budget contained no other major allocation for the development of Amaravati, which the TDP Government had taken up on a grand scale without adequate financial assistance by the Central government.

Former Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu had earmarked ₹7,741 crore for Municipal Administration Department and Capital Region Development Authority in the 2018-19 budget.

The YSR Congress Party is apparently under intense pressure to make a judicious use of the meagre resources at its disposal against the backdrop of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s cautious stand on taking the capital city projects forward.

In fact, he took the radical step of reviewing the slew of land allotments in Amaravati alleging that it was a big fraud. This partly explains why he did not loosen the purse strings as far as Amaravati is concerned.
