₹3.45 crore worth gold missing from bank

Officials of Andhra Bank were a puzzled lot on Monday after gold ornaments worth about ₹3.45 crore were allegedly found missing from the strong room of a rural branch near Amara Raja Digital City in Yadamarri mandal, 10 km from here.

According to Deputy SP (Chittoor) Eeshwar Reddy, the jewellery mortgaged in the bank was allegedly stolen on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

After the branch opened on Monday, the bank officials reportedly found the gold missing. The Deputy SP said that going by the circumstances and the observation of the bank officials, “it looks completely as the handiwork of some insider elements”.

The official said that the bank authorities were preparing a complaint along with the details pertaining to the missing valuables. The digital footage would be scrutinised and the Clues team was pressed into action, he said.
